In this week’s blog post, we will delve into the captivating realm of personal collections, often referred to as PCs. We aim to provide an immersive exploration of our own collections, offering valuable insights into our most cherished players, teams, and sports card brands. As we explore the depths of our PCs, we will highlight the unwavering loyalty our collections hold towards our favorite teams – the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and San Antonio Spurs. Moreover, our collections proudly showcase highly regarded athletes such as Michael Jordan, Victor Wembanyama, Corey Seager, and Serena Williams. Their greatness resonates within our collections, serving as a testament to their remarkable achievements. Together, let’s embrace the passion and excitement that reverberates within our own collections, creating a profound connection between athletes, teams, and fans.
In the world of card collecting, there is a contemporary term used to define cards that collectors wish to hold onto. This term is referred to as a “PC” or “Personal Collection”. This term not only conveys the emotional attachment we have to these cards, but also signifies our unwavering commitment to preserving them. Consider it a means of describing cards that hold a special place in one’s heart and are not available for sale or trade. These cards are treasured possessions we as collectors hold onto with great affection and sentimental value. People usually PC cards from their favorite teams or individual players they greatly admire. Occasionally athletes find their way into our collections even when we aren’t particularly fond of the team they play for. For instance, though I’ve never been a fan of the New York Yankees, I have a well-deserved place in my PC dedicated to Hall of Famer Derek Jeter. I still vividly recall gamedays as a kid, trying to mimic Jeter’s playing style and shouting “Jeter Hop” while making difficult plays at shortstop.

One aspect that sets my collection apart from others is my preference for cards that possess an artistic flair and visual appeal. I gravitate toward cards designed by featured artists, canvas-style cards, and unique illustrations that infuse the card with character. Additionally, I am drawn to reimagined versions of iconic cards offering a fresh and modern component to vintage card designs. If you share a profound appreciation for both art and the sports card hobby, I believe you will share my enthusiasm for these exceptional cards. A few notable examples in my PC include Topps Project70, Topps Project 2020, Topps Museum Collection, Topps Gallery, and Topps National Chicle cards. Moreover, if you are willing to make a substantial investment in individual slabs, I highly recommend exploring the Panini Donruss DOWNTOWN cards. These cards boast a truly unique and captivating artistic design that I personally obsess over. Not only are they highly sought after in the hobby, but they also have the potential to significantly appreciate in value over time. I myself plan to invest in one of these as soon as I can muster up the confidence to drop $600 on a single slab.
Out of all the cards in my possession, my current favorite is a 2021 Topps Project70 Ronald Acuna Jr autographed card. This particular card pays homage to the 1997 Topps baseball card design and was created by Gregory Siff, a renowned artist known for his unique blend of abstract-expressionism and pop art. The card itself is exquisite, featuring a captivating design that sets it apart. It has become a cherished piece in my collection and I intend to keep it for a lifetime.

A significant portion of my personal sports card collection consists of cards belonging to highly acclaimed MLB athletes. Among them are Bobby Witt Jr., the esteemed shortstop for the Kansas City Royals, and Manny Machado, widely regarded as one of the best third basemen in the MLB, who plays for the San Diego Padres. I also possess cards featuring Adley Rutschman, a switch-hitting phenom currently playing catcher for the Baltimore Orioles, and Shohei Ohtani, who serves as a DH and pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, earning comparisons to the legendary Babe Ruth. Other players I enjoy PCing include Julio Rodriguez, Mike Trout, Ronald Acuna Jr., Gunnar Henderson, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Bo Bichette.
Recently, I have expanded my collection to include sports cards featuring female athletes. Notable additions to my collection include tennis legend and undoubtedly one of the greatest athletes of all time, Serena Williams. I was happy to find that they do in fact make sports cards for tennis. Diana Taurasi, a WNBA legend who has achieved remarkable success throughout her career on the Phoenix Mercury. Paige Bueckers, the talented guard for UConn and one of the most dominant forces in women’s NCAA basketball is probably my favorite player to PC right now. Ciara has managed to pull two Caitlin Clark cards which we added to our PC as well. She is undeniably one of the greatest in the game right now and her cards are selling for incredibly high amounts on all sports cards platforms right now. Recently on PWCC a 2023 Bowman U Chrome Superfractor Caitlin Clark Rookie Auto 1/1 just sold for $10,500. These phenomenal athletes have not only brought a new level of viewership to women’s sports but also serve as inspirations for everyone. Their achievements and contributions to their respective sports are truly remarkable and deserve recognition.
Let’s delve deeper into Ciara’s PC. Ciara plays a dual role as both a collector and sports card investor, making her responsible for managing our sports card sales on our eBay storefront and promoting our brand through various social media platforms. By closely monitoring the sports card stock market, she keeps track of the constant influx of players and sports cards that come through our doors only to be quickly sold. However, amidst the fast-paced nature of the sports card business, there are a select few teams and players that she chooses to hold onto in her personal collection. Ciara’s collection focuses on baseball, football, and basketball, with her favorite teams being the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and the San Antonio Spurs. She takes great pride in collecting cards featuring players who hold a special place in her heart, such as Victor Wembanyama, Corey Seager, Adolis Garcia, Bijan Robinson, and Micah Parsons. These athletes embody exceptional talent and represent the pinnacle of their respective sports.

Reflecting on Ciara’s journey, we can trace the genesis of her interest in sports cards back to a pivotal moment when she purchased her very first pack of cards. It was a Topps Texas Rangers team pack that she bought during a Rangers baseball game we attended together. Since then, her passion for collecting has only grown stronger. In addition to Seager and Garcia, Ciara also focuses on assembling a remarkable collection of cards featuring other talented Rangers players. These include Josh Jung, Evan Carter, Marcus Semien, Wyatt Langford, Ezequiel Durán, and former third baseman, Adrian Beltre. Ciara’s personal collection not only showcases her deep appreciation for the game but also serves as a testament to the enduring excitement and allure of the sports cards hobby.
Ciara’s most cherished card in her collection is a Victor Wembanyama green prizm rookie card. This particular card is special because she pulled it from a 2023 NBA Draft Picks Prizm Blaster in the first pack. Despite not featuring Wemby in a Spurs jersey, the sheer thrill that overwhelmed her when she obtained the card she had been hoping for was enough to secure its place at the pinnacle of her personal favorites list. Though Ciara now possesses several more valuable Wemby cards, that specific card will always retain its sentimental value in her PC.

We hope that you found our discussion on our favorite players to PC insightful and enjoyable. We would greatly appreciate hearing from you about your favorite teams and players, as well as any input you may have on your favorite cards from your own personal collections.
